Short and sweet this week, as we received no match report from any of our senior men’s or women’s teams and only two from our juniors.
Team managers/coaches: the deadline for match reports is Tuesday evening, to johnmulcair@optusnet.com.au.
And, don’t forget, pictures are welcome.

Sutho Geckos 3 def St George 1
Thank you to Rory Staples for the pictures
An away win to the Geckos, but it was a tough game from start to finish. It’s always a challenge playing St George on their home turf, and the Geckos just couldn’t seem to get on top.
In the first few minutes of the game, St George nearly scored with some loose marking and tackling by the Geckos, but their shot just went wide of the goal post.
This seemed to be the wake-up call the Geckos needed and they created quite a few chances at the other end following the early reprieve.
The St George goalkeeper was excellent throughout the game and made many very good saves.
The Geckos eventually opened their account with a good solo effort by Matty Rose, dribbling the ball into the circle, dragging around the keeper and a controlled back-stick into the goal – some very handy skills on display!
This was quickly followed by a goal to Piper Bentley whose shot on goal managed to sneak through the keeper’s pads and roll into the goal.
However, reality then struck – the Geckos were 2-0 up – and St George were dominating and earned three short corners in a row. This required some terrific saves from the Gecko’s goalie, Nick Sullivan.
Despite this, St George eventually found the back of the net and the score at half-time was 2-1 to the Geckos.
Both teams seemed to dominate in patches in the second half, with the St George keeper continuing to make some tremendous saves.
But the Geckos scored the goal of the season (so far) in the second half. The ball travelled down the right side of the field and then angled in towards the St George circle.
There were four Geckos players across the top of the circle and each player received the ball, drew their opposition player before passing the ball to the Gecko player on their left.
The second last Gecko player drew the keeper out of their goal before passing to an unmarked Lachlan Staples on the far left who pushed the ball into the goal.
It was an amazing team goal that I hope to see repeated.
Best and fairest: 3 Shontae Salmon, 2 Lachlan Staples, 1 Chloe Holmes. Goals: Matthew Rose, Piper Bentley, Lachlan Staples.

We had a fast and furious game this week (our match was reduced to only half an hour due to a double booking with the Daceyville field).
With the increased time pressure on the team, the Geckos stood up and achieved a fantastic 7-1 victory.
Jonty Austin scored 3 goals and was awarded player of the match.
Darcy Matthews and Zara Matthews were awarded 2 and 1 points respectively for their outstanding game play.
The rest of the team continued our simple theme of keeping the ball wide and taking free hits very quickly.
Best and fairest: 3 Jonty Austin, 2 Darcy Matthews, 1 Zara Matthews. Goals: Jonty Austin 3, Finn Wille, Lachlan Duhne, Rhys Bollard, Cameron Sprod 1 each.
